October 2013 Fall

Welcome to autumn, Chapter Members:

Now that summer is but a fleeting lovely memory of beach days, barbeques and fun family vacations and the kids (and we adults) are back to school. I hope you all had an enjoyable New England summer.

The Board has met for its fall meeting, making plans for the remainder of the year and upcoming chapter events. As you many of you already know, we held an educational event on Multiple Myeloma at White’s in Westwood which was well attended. We are offering what will be the last live Chemo/Bio Course, taught by Megan Begnoche, RN, MSN. AOCN on October 12 and 26th at The Miriam Hospital, for more information the contact is meganrezendes@yahoo.com. And, of course it wouldn’t be fall without the annual Sturdy Memorial Hospital Fall Seminar, held in participation with the Chapter, on Saturday, October 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This year’s theme is Cancer and Genetics, which should be quite interesting and informative. For more information see our website at http://c107.vc.ons.org or call Karen Messier at 508/236-7012. This year Lifespan will be holding their Annual Oncology Nursing Education Day at a new venue at the Sheraton Warwick on November 2.

If you’ve ever given any thought to becoming active in the operations of your chapter, either as a committee member or a board member, please keep in mind that there will be opportunities to serve beginning in 2014. The board vacancies are for 3 directors at large (1 one year term and 2 two year term) and secretary (one year of a two year term). Nominations will be accepted until November 1. Elections will be held in November…more to come. In Lieu of an Annual Chapter Christmas Party in December, the board has voted to have an alternative festive chapter event in January, after all of the Holiday Hullabaloo dies down. The purpose of this event will be to meet Leah Arsenault, the new Chapter President and her newly elected board members to celebrate and wish them well and show support. This event will be free of charge to all chapter members, but will require reservations ahead of time, as I am sure you can appreciate.

We then, I’ll close for now. Here’s wishing all of you a successful and happy fall season. Hoping to see you at the Sturdy Memorial Conference, as well as the other events we have coming up. Keep peeking at the calendar. With Warmest Regards, Sandy Urban-Lynch..your chapter president
